Interestingly, if we can drive on two sides…it’s very comfortable, you can turn yourself and continue to drive :)

Cute bus, but the chart for the budget is so completely wrong as to render the whole exercise pointless. Take a look at the ACTUAL 2007 Federal Budget:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fbs_us_fy2007.png

Defense accounts for 17% of the spending, not the 50% shown on the bus. Likewise, Medicaid plus Medicare add up to 24% of the spending, much more than the 5-10% shown for “Health” on the bus. Finally, unemployment, welfare and social security consume 34% of the federal budget, which doesn’t seem to be reflected in the chart on the bus.

I’m no apologist for the Defense Department, but if you’re worried about the state of the Federal Budget, you should look at the large and rapidly increasing transfer of wealth that is occurring FROM people who work, TO people who are old, whether they need the money or not.

Lest you think this is a bitter wage slave talking, I’m retired, so most of my income is taxed at the nice, low 15% cap-gains rate, and I never pay any social security, payroll or Medicare taxes. A relative, who is by no means poor and already had decent prescription drug coverage before the ridiculous 2003 Part D Medicare drug benefit was added, now saves an ADDITIONAL $1-2000/year on drugs, thanks to the generous subsidy from the US taxpayer. The cost of this new program alone is ~$75,000,000,000 per year.

The problem with the budget isn’t the DoD, it’s out of control spending on Social Security and especially Medicare.

      Well said glky

I’d also point out that none of the expenditures that the purveyors of the bus seem to be decrying as under-funded (education, world hunger, transportation, health, human services, science & energy, community development, environment, administration, housing, agriculture, foreign affairs) are mentioned in the Constitution.

Only two (foreign affairs and administration) can be even reasonably construed as functions of a government that respects the intent of the framers

The rest are the result of social engineering and can be objectively shown to be complete and utter failures.

Further, it amazes me that the same people who are convinced that the Pentagon can do no right are equally willing to turn their healthcare over to the Feds. Have they never been to the DMV?
